Biodiversity
Borneo Nature Foundation has grown into a prominent conservation organisation motivated to deliver successful grassroots conservation outcomes for habitat protection, peatland restoration and biodiversity conservation. We believe in an integrated, multi-faceted and community-led approach to conservation in order to ensure long-term sustainability of conservation initiatives. BNF was born out of a passion for research and conservation, which burns even stronger today. Founders Dr Helen Morrogh-Bernard and Simon Husson carried out the first orangutan surveys in Sebangau in 1995, raising awareness and helping develop the knowledge-base and strategy that led to the Sebangau National Park’s creation in 2004. We were heavily involved in the local in-situ response to the major 2015 and 2019 fires, have initiated peatland re-wetting and reforestation activities, and have strong community links.
