About

Grogenics is a coastal resilience company transforming unmanaged sargassum blooms into measurable environmental, climate, and community outcomes. We combine low-impact coastal interception, circular biomass transformation, and climate intelligence to help coastal communities respond to increasingly disruptive sargassum events while protecting marine ecosystems, tourism assets, fisheries, and local livelihoods. Our operational model focuses on intercepting sargassum before prolonged decomposition, helping reduce ecosystem disruption and greenhouse gas emissions associated with unmanaged coastal biomass accumulation. Collected biomass is transformed through circular processes into regenerative local applications, including biochar-enriched soil solutions adapted to coastal conditions. Beyond response, Grogenics is building predictive coastal intelligence systems through satellite observation, AI, and field measurements to help communities better anticipate, prepare for, and respond to sargassum influxes. Through the BESS initiative, Grogenics is advancing satellite-informed coastal intelligence in West Africa while supporting implementation pathways in the Caribbean and Mesoamerican Reef region. In Mexico, Grogenics has supported the diversion and transformation of more than 5,000 m³ of sargassum in a few months while advancing low-impact operational approaches designed to reduce ecosystem disturbance and strengthen local resilience. With projects advancing in Belize and pilots in Senegal, Grogenics is developing a scalable coastal resilience model designed for vulnerable coastlines globally. Grogenics has been internationally selected and recognized through initiatives including endorsement as a UN Ocean Decade Project (UNESCO IOC), winner of the World Economic Forum UpLink Coastal Tourism Challenge (2022), the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution and Ocean Solution Labels, inclusion in Solar Impulse Foundation’s blue economy solutions guide *The Ocean Opportunity: A Solutions’ Guide for the Blue Economy*, nomination to the Earthshot Prize, selection by the Space for Climate Observatory (one of 11 global projects selected in 2026), UNICEF Innovation30 Dubai 2023 (Top 25 Young Climate Innovators Award Winner), selection as a Moonshots for Development (M4D) Open Innovation Challenge finalist (Top 20 selected from 1,600+ ventures globally), Global Roots/New Ventures, the FLII Unlocking the Planet Award runner-up, and recognition by IDB Lab as a leading sargassum solution.
