About

To address fundamental causes of reef degradation and to facilitate diversified income opportunities, this innovative approach utilizes the combination of overabundant seaweeds and COTS biomass to financially incentivize regenerative natural resource management practices of invasive species.  The solution provides a community capacity building and business implementation framework, creating a financially self-sustaining (circular), community-owned, market-oriented enterprise that: Develops products which support regenerative agricultural production at small holder scale, improved agricultural practices and nutritious food for local consumption; Creates potential for commercial sales of organic fertilizer enabling the community-owned business to access two key supply chains: (1) island community members displacing inorganic fertilizers; (2) sales to commercial entities, and to a larger distributor (Note: A Fijian off-take entity has already expressed an intention to buy two of the proposed products.) Mainstreams gender equity and social inclusion into community-owned business enterprises.
