Sanku is a pioneering nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to ending malnutrition in East Africa through innovative food fortification. Established in 2013, Sanku integrates cutting-edge technology, sustainable business practices, and strategic partnerships with small and medium-scale local mills to ensure that every meal consumed contains lifesaving nutrients. Our core innovation, the IoT-enabled Dosifier, automates the precise addition of essential vitamins and minerals to flour, reaching millions of people who rely on maize flour as a staple food. What sets Sanku apart is our holistic approach and scalable model. We have developed a sustainable business model where the margins from selling fortified flour bags cover the cost of nutrient premix, making fortification affordable and sustainable. This ensures that fortified flour is available at the same price as non-fortified flour, removing economic barriers for low-income families. Our commitment to local capacity building is evident, with over 95% of our team being East African and deeply rooted in the communities we serve.Sanku’s impact is significant and validated by renowned organizations like Helen Keller International (HKI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We currently partner with over 1,600 local mills, providing fortified flour to 10 million people daily. Our goal is to reach 100 million people by 2030, saving lives, improving health outcomes, and driving economic growth across the region. Sanku is leading the charge in the fight against hidden hunger, ensuring that no child or mother suffers from preventable nutrient deficiencies.
