Plastics / Synthetic Resins
SCS does not support the proliferation of the informal sector. With our financial mechanism we aim to employ and promote employment opportunities for the waste management sector, in this way we are positively disrupting the traditional waste management economics. In addition, we are not leveraging on the existing waste infrastructure, but instead, want to create a new stream that does not yet exist. While there are investments in waste management infrastructure in Indonesia, most organisations tend to focus on high-urban areas, where traditional waste management economics makes sense. There are currently no robust systems in place in the Riau Archipelago. Our unique infrastructure: Building the first Materials Facility Recovery in the Riau Archipelago to centralise the aggregation, sorting and separation of collected plastic waste into their different streams. The increase in volume will allow us to set up off take agreements with recyclers in Java and explore secondary processing partnerships for circularity. The current plastic collection supply chain is rife with WC’s earning well below national minimum wages, dangerous working conditions, child labour, indentured labour and corruption. Our solution creates a scalable funding mechanism which allows us to continuously pay them more (above the current wage of 2 - 8USD a day, and subject to harsh and hazardous working conditions with little to no protection) and remove even more mismanaged waste.
